Brief History of Ali Campbell and UB40
Alistair (Ali) Campbell is an English singer/songwriter, born in February 1959, and both the founder member and lead singer of the famed SKA Reggae band UB40; which originated in Birmingham, and also a solo singer with both recording and album credits to his name.
His band, UB40 sold in excess of 70 million records worldwide including 4 No 1 singles in the UK top 40 singles charts. The band successfully toured the world for more than thirty consecutive years.
Ali’s first solo album called ‘Running Free’ was released in 2007 and entered the UK charts at number 9 before going gold.
Ali decided to quit the band UB40 after a tour of Australia, New Zealand and Uganda in February of 2008 to pursue his solo career further.
He went on to produce two solo albums in 2008 and 2009 and a third in October 2010, all three achieved status within the top albums released at their respective years.
In 2014 Ali reunited with his original band UB40 band mates Astro and Mikey Virtue to record a new album, which they named Silhouette.
