Wedding Bands: How Much Should You Really Pay?

Planning a wedding is an exciting journey with a lot of decisions to make. Choosing the right wedding band is definitely one of the most important choices. As you envision your dream day, the question arises: How much should you budget for this magical musical experience? The cost of hiring a wedding band can vary based on several factors, from the band's size and popularity to the duration of their performance, their travel distance and time, the start time of your reception and their expected arrival and set up time all influence the cost. In this article, we'll delve into the intricacies of wedding band pricing, offering valuable insights to help you make an informed decision and create unforgettable moments on your special day.

Why Do You Need a Live Band?

You might be wondering if a dj or pre-recorded music  would suffice instead of hiring a live band. Well, if you want to create a mind-blowing atmosphere and an unforgettable evening, a wedding band is the way to go! A great band is made up of very skilled players who can read the audience and keep the dance floor full all night. With their professional sound and lighting equipment, they'll put on a spectacular show that DJs or pre-recorded music just can't match. The interaction with the crowd and their musical prowess will make your wedding an unforgettable experience!

What's Included in Your Booking?

When you book a wedding band, you'll enjoy a package that ensures a fantastic performance and a stress-free experience:

Sound and Lighting Equipment:

Most bands bring high-end sound and lighting equipment that elevates their performance and can even be used for speeches and announcements, by arrangement. Rest assured, bands booked through UK Live Entertainment also have public liability insurance, and all of their equipment will be safety tested and they’ll have a PAT test certificate to prove it. Most venues require sight of the PL certificate and the PAT test certificate.

Personalised Songs:

Your first dance is a cherished moment and most bands include the cost of learning a song of your choice for this special occasion. Some bands are even willing to learn more songs, so be sure to check their profiles and repertoire, or ask the question before booking.

DJ Service:

Worried about keeping your guests entertained between sets or after the band's performance? Fear not! Most bands offer a unmanned playlist DJ service for band breaks as part of the package. There may be an additional charge to continue the music after the band’s final live set, but the charge will be negligible compared with hiring a separate DJ.  If you want a DJ to take requests, you can opt for a manned service at an additional cost.

Travel Costs:

With UK Live Entertainment, the quoted price is all-inclusive, covering any travel costs. Choosing a band local to your venue not only helps you get a better deal but also reduces the environmental impact, we can assist you in finding bands available in your area, or you can use our website to explore prices tailored to your location.

Factors Affecting the Price of a Band for Your Wedding!

There are a lot of things that can affect how much it costs to hire a wedding band. If you know about these things, you can make a good choice and find the right band for your big day. Here are the most important things that affect how much a wedding band costs:

Performance Duration and Time On Site:

Most bands offer two 1-hour sets, or three 40-minute sets, with breaks in between. If you want more dancing time, many bands allow you to add extra sets or extend their performance duration.

The Date of Your Wedding:

Summer dates and Saturdays are highly sought after for weddings, which can increase the demand for bands and affect their pricing. Consider booking off-peak or on a weekday to potentially make savings. While it's not guaranteed, it's worth checking the availability and pricing for these dates.

The Band's Popularity and Style:

The more popular and in-demand a band is, the higher their cost is likely to be. To secure your favourite band, it's best to book early, ideally 12-18 months in advance, to avoid disappointment.

When You Book:

Booking your wedding band early can help you get the best price available. Bands may adjust their fees from time to time to keep up with inflation and meet their financial needs. Locking in today's prices can lead to significant savings.

How to Get the Best Deal on Your Wedding Band:

  • Book Early: Secure your band and take advantage of current prices by booking as early as possible.

  • Find a Local Band: Choose a band that is located in your own county or region of the country,  to save money on travel, and also to lower your carbon footprint.

  • Consider Off-Peak Dates: Autumn or winter weddings, excluding December (due to the Christmas party season), can offer better pricing.

  • Reduce the Line-up: Some bands offer the flexibility to perform with a smaller line-up, which can help keep costs down without compromising on quality.

Conclusion

Now that you know what to expect when hiring a wedding band, you're all set to make your big day even more special!
